In 1861 the Linton Post Office was situated on this site, and it was here the first money order office (1865), telegraph office (1868) and savings bank (1870) opened. Dan Cornish operated a boot and shoe shop here from 1881, until the shop was bought by the Murrell family in 1932 when they moved their newsagency from Criterion House across the road. Murrell’s newsagency, sweet shop and bank agency operated here until it closed in 1998. This building was more recently an antique shop and is now privately owned.
