Next door, at 58 Sussex St, was the home of John Gellatly Allan and his large family. The house once had a small shop at the front left, originally a saddlery run by Joe Luscombe. John Allan’s son, George Rennie, known as ‘Rozzie,’ apprenticed with Luscombe and later took over the saddlery.
In 1919, John Allan’s daughter Georgina married baker John William Hall, and after John’s death, they operated a small bakery here, with Georgina preparing and Bill baking cakes, sausage rolls, and other goods.
