46 Sussex Street - former first house of Oscar Ball

Oscar Ball built and lived in the house at 46 Sussex St prior to building the large house at 54 Sussex Street. He returned here after selling the big house to the Education Department in 1919, and had an extensive fruit and vegetable garden, owning this block and the corner one next to it until 1940.

This photo on your screen is of the family of Oscar Ball.

You can now cross to the other side of Sussex St and turn right to get to the Pioneer Memorial. Look for the flagpole.
