Until 2023, the building in front of you housed a restaurant that was always known in the village as “Kilians.” This is where the famous traveling musician and imperial Chinese military bandmaster Hubertus Kilian lived, who opened a restaurant here after his many travels. He worked here until his death in 1899.
For many decades, Kilians was the central meeting place in Eßweiler. People gathered here, talked, and reminisced about times gone by. Music was often played, for example on the accordion, and traditional songs were sung.
Kilians remains an important part of the village’s history to this day and stands for the lively community spirit in Eßweiler.
