From the 1890s, on this corner of Sussex and Grant Streets, was the house of GP, Dr J B (Blair) Donaldson Senior, who practised in Linton from 1889 until his retirement in 1920. His two daughters, Roberta and Agnes, who both became doctors and later worked in Melbourne and overseas as obstetricians, were born here in 1891 and 1894. His son, Blair Donaldson Jnr, also a doctor, took over his father’s practice in 1920 when he returned from the First World War, also lived here, and Dr Donaldson Snr moved to a house in Grant St.
The house was apparently set back on the block with a large barn in the front of it to one side. Evidently, previously, Chinese miners had a shed at this site that was used to store machinery and to enter an underground mine.
Turn left and walk about 100 metres north along the Glenelg Highway.
