Opened in 1858, the blacksmith’s shop is one of the earliest buildings in town. Several generations of the Wishart family manufactured and repaired horse and carriage equipment as well as much of the local farm equipment, such as ploughs, wool presses and harrows. Alan Wishart was still operating as a farrier and blacksmith in the 1970s until he closed the workshop in 1979.
In recent years, the house and smithy have been sympathetically restored by new owners.
