In the year 1710 the construction works for the Zwinger beside the wall of the bastion Luna were started. At first a tournament and festival ground surrounded by a wooden framework was built. On demand of August the Strong the architect Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann built the Zwinger in the style of the roman baroque. As the first building in Dresden with such a look it was finished in 1732.
