The mob targeted the streetcars coming through Five Points. Kuhn believes this was no coincidence as it was one of the major integrated services in the city of Atlanta at the time and a symbol of a new, more tolerant South. Earlier that month Atlanta City Council considered a new street car segregation ordinance.
