Am 24. April 1737 legte der Kurfürst und Erzbischof von Köln Clemens August den Grundstein zum Bau des heutigen Alten Rathauses. Eineinhalb Jahre später konnten die Amtsgeschäfte aus einem zur provisorischen Sitzungsstätte benutzten Gasthaus in das neue Gebäude verlegt werden.
