Passing through the High Gate, we enter Olsztyn’s Old Town – the oldest part of the city. From the founding of Olsztyn in 1353 until the nineteenth century, the entire city was contained within this small area. For centuries, only a few thousand people lived within the town walls. It was not until Olsztyn was connected to the railway network in the nineteenth century that the city began to grow rapidly and expand beyond its medieval boundaries….
