Since 2006, the Svalbard Museum has been situated in the eastern wing of the Svalbard Forskningsparken (Science Park), sharing a roof with the University of Svalbard, the North Polar Institute, and other research facilities. Covering approximately 1500 m², the exhibition spans 400 years of Svalbard history, from William Barnez’s early exploration in 1596 to the growth of Longyearbyen from a mining camp to a bustling tourism and research town in the high Arctic.
