Perched over Longyearbyen, the Government building Sysselmannen Bygget dominates the town’s skyline. Built in 1934, it symbolizes Norway’s sovereignty over Svalbard since 1925.
Despite destruction during WWII, a new structure emerged in 1949. The old building remnants, including the distinctive white tower, remain visible today.
