Positioned between Svalbardbutikken (Coop) and Lompensenteret, this statue depicts an anonymous miner clad in full “lomp,” the traditional attire worn by coal miners in the 1960s.
Unveiled by Olav Theodorsen, a former miner from 1960 to 1996, the bronze sculpture stands as a tribute to those who worked to establish Longyearbyen.
