The Eugensplatz is a well-known viewpoint in Stuttgart, offering an impressive panorama of the city center and the Stuttgart valley. This popular spot attracts both locals and tourists, but its popularity also brings challenges regarding litter and cleanliness.
To address these issues, additional waste bins have been installed at Eugensplatz. The City of Stuttgart organizes regular clean-up campaigns to maintain a pleasant environment. Various initiatives and campaigns aim to raise awareness about waste reduction and encourage visitors to dispose of their litter responsibly. In collaboration with artists, the city has created creative trash bins and visual cues to engage citizens playfully in proper waste disposal. These efforts particularly target younger audiences and aim to foster environmental awareness.
The square is connected to the lower city via an impressive staircase called the “Eugenstaffel.” These “Stäffele” (Swabian for “steps”) are a unique feature of Stuttgart’s landscape, originally built to provide access to vineyards on the city’s steep slopes. The so-called “Staffel Route” guides visitors through many of these iconic stairways.
One of the most famous landmarks of Eugensplatz is the Galateabrunnen (Galatea Fountain), a picturesque fountain built in 1890.
